Reverse Engine

Reverse Engine Records was founded in 2000 for the express purpose of releasing independent music by a Los Angeles-based lo-fi home recording collective. RER has released extremely limited edition CD-Rs and/or netaudio albums since 2001.

Of late, RER has aimed to bridge the gap between the copyleftist netlabel community and the more mainstream independent music scene. Thus far, this partnership has led to two upcoming compilations, "Artsongs" and "Sneaky Flute Moods: A Tribute To The Swirlies", which will reach Archive.org in 2011.

7 tracks of home-recorded post-rock in miniature make up the first official release from the artist formerly known as elevator to the stars. "One Lit Window" is the first in a series of four 7-track EPs. Dave MH's first release under his own name, "Music from the film PRESENCE" , was released by Headphonica in December 2009. The Starry Tides also appear on the soundzfromnowhere compilation, My Digital Valentine, Volume 2 . "PSTST", An EP of remixes, is in the...

Reverse Engine brings you "Ship", the latest 7 song ep from docks , a one man, mostly electronic outfit from Southern California. "Ship" is 7 tracks of emotive ambient electronic/post rock with skittering beats and occasional strings, all fed through massive amounts of delay and reverb. Many thanks to DEEPGOA 's Electronic Sessions for featuring this EP as a "good night" post . myspace.com/docksmusic

"In 2008, when the plan for a Swirlies tribute album was first announced, all sorts of people came out of the woodwork. Joyful weirdos, home recorders, dreamy lo-fi enthusiasts. We brought our Big Muffs, Jaguars, banjos and glockenspiels, our Casio SK-1s and crappy plastic microphones. We made some friends, made some noise and we got to work covering our favorite Swirlies songs. The resulting compilation features a lineup that spans eight countries and three continents. Like the Swirlies...

Las Vegas-based home recording project Ten Digit Army is D.I.Y. to the core. Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist TDA plays every sound you hear--from vintage keyboards to reverbed guitars and overloaded drum machine beats. Ten Digit Army's first release for RER is four catchy, soulful songs from a far-off basement, a distant beacon from the desert. Many thanks to Masayuki @ Music Forest and Roland @ Machtdose podcast for being early supporters and spreading the word about this EP. Recommended...
